FAQ

I thought I had to be part of a team to participate at Ragnar?

Nope! Ragnar now offers individual runner options at select trail events. In 2025, events with individual race options are Trail Ohio, Trail Colorado, Trail Vermont, Trail New Jersey, Trail SoCal, and Trail Florida.

What options are there for individual runners?

Individual runners may choose from 1 of 3 races:

  1. 24H (24-Hour): Runners will start on Friday and finish on Saturday, running as many loops as they can during a 24-hour period. Runners will complete green, yellow, and red loops in consecutive order as many times as they would like.
  2. 6H (6-Hour): Runners will start on Saturday morning and run as many loops as they can during a 6-hour period. Runners will complete the green, yellow, and red loops in consecutive order as many times as they would like.
  3. Single Loop: Each event will have one loop designated where participants will run as fast as they can. The single loop race will occur on Saturday morning. Note: Loop selected will vary at each race.

What are the courses?

24H + 6H: Individual runners for the 24H and 6H options will run the same loops as teams participating in the event. Individual runners must run the loops in green-yellow-red order for the duration of the event.

  • After a loop is completed, runners will pass through the transition tent at the race venue. Runners do not need to stop, but are welcome to take any breaks needed.

Single Loop: Participants of the single loop option will run one of the loops from the main event course. Check each race for specific details on the loop selected as the course.

Can I take a break?

YES! Run as fast or as slow as you would like. As always, listen to your body and take breaks when needed. On site we will have hydration, fuel, a recovery zone and medical personnel.

What mileage can I expect to run?

24H: Expect to run roughly 50 to 60 miles, depending on pace

6H: Expect to run roughly 20-25 miles, depending on pace

Single Loop:  Expect to run approximately 4-7 miles, depending on the loop selected as the course at each event

Do I run overnight?

24H: In our individual races, only 24-hour participants will have the opportunity to run overnight. It is not required and you are welcome to rest, run, refuel or whatever you’d like, during this time period. The team race participants at the event will run overnight as part of their race so there will be other participants out on course.

  • Safety for night running: Headlamps are required to go out on course during night time hours. Runners can expect to see small directional arrows through the course and blinking lights on the arrows to guide through the course overnight.

What amenities does Ragnar offer?

Individual participants can expect to receive the same offerings given to teams including a shirt, race bib, SWAG bag, and finisher medal. Ragnar Trail venues also offer free coffee, hot chocolate, and water, sponsor samples and demo products as well as s’mores at the nightly bonfire on Thursdays and Fridays. Additionally, individual participants can expect a dedicated aid station with extra snacks and fuel.

Can I camp?

YES! All Ragnar participants are invited to camp and enjoy the camaraderie with friends and other participants. Every Ragnar Trail event offers camping options starting Thursday night. Participants can bring their own tent and gear, OR Rent-A-Tent form Ragnar.

Ragnar also offers a limited amount of Glamping at each event. Starting at $450 (for 1 or 2 people) and up to $1,600 (for 8 people), participants who book a Ragnar Glamping site receive a full-service camping experience. Everything from the tent, cot, table, chairs, lights, charging stations, and more are setup upon arrival. Ice, water, coffee, and great vibes are also included.

Can I bring a support crew?

YES! A support crew is highly encouraged. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the unique Ragnar atmosphere and help you complete your journey.

How are results calculated?

24H + 6H: Results are calculated by the total number of loops completed. Awards will be given to those with the highest number of completed loops. Incomplete loops will not count. For instance, if a participant is still on course at the cutoff time, only the loops fully completed prior to the cutoff time will count. Partial loops will not count towards final results.

Single Loop: The fastest time on the loop will win.

What are the awards?

24H + 6H: Awards will be distributed to the first-place overall male and female. Note: All participants will receive a finisher medal.

Single Loop: Sponsor product or local vendor
